The play button has been pushed on a development side hustle arguably with more boom than a Gold Coast property cycle.
At least, in an acoustic sense.
As exclusively revealed by The Urban Developer in April, Gold Coast pro surfer-turned-Grammy nominated DJ Paul Fisher has added a bonus track to his business empire, dropping in on the city’s wave of luxury beachside development.
Under the entity YLB Property Development—apparently a nod to his 2019 hit You Little Beauty—he quietly lodged plans in March for a nine-storey apartment tower on Palm Beach’s dress circle Jefferson Lane at the southern end of the Glitter Strip.
Only four months later, the Gold Coast City Council has given the proposal the green light.
But, as with most development applications, council officers raised a few issues in the process.
Among the list of minor concerns was the omission of required acoustic barriers 2m above the finished ground level from the proposal’s architectural drawings.
With his penchant for pumping up the volume, you could hardly blame them for any disquiet over unneighbourly decibel levels potentially coming from the globetrotting tech-house music producer’s development dabble.
No matter, it seems. Updated plans were submitted to keep the peace and all was resolved.
Fisher, as he is known to his fans, has been flying high since his breakthrough 2018 hit Losing It, which scored a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording and led to him performing at the Coachella festival as well as residencies in Ibiza and Las Vegas.
He and his wife, podcast host Chloe Chapman, also own alcoholic seltzer brand Hard Fizz. As well, things have got a little busier for the couple in the past few months with the birth of their baby girl Bobbi Maree.
Fisher’s foray into property development is earmarked for a site spanning 826sq m across neighbouring lots that front Jefferson Lane and the Gold Coast Highway.
Property records show the amalgamated holding was acquired by Paul Fisher Investments, of which he is the sole shareholder, in two separate transactions totalling $5.2 million in 2020 and 2023.
According to the planning documents, the proposed boutique tower will feature six full-floor three-bedroom apartments on levels 1 to 6 crowned by a double-storey four-bedroom penthouse on levels 7 to 8 with a private rooftop pool and entertaining area.
The scheme was designed by BDA Architecture.
Communal recreation space planned for the ground level comprises a resort-style pool, lounge/sun deck area, spa, gym, sauna, dining booth and barbecue facilities.
A single basement level will accommodate parking spaces for 15 cars.
The building’s material palette comprising opposing white and red detailed brickwork, white concrete and timber is designed to “create a rich and layered coastal effect”, an architectural statement said.
“The architecture of the proposed development is contemporary and organic in form, with sweeping soft curves anchored by a robust brick podium at street level drawing the visitor in via its strikingly visual entry arches,” it said.
“The design outcome will result in the addition of an elegant and visually interesting building, which will provide considerable amenity for residents and visitors that overall enhances the beachfront of the Palm Beach precinct.”
