The designs for Australia's newest contemporary art museum, Adelaide Contemporary have been revealed.

Six design teams were announced in December last year to design the gallery, an initiative of the former Labor government.

Conceived as a sister museum to the Art Gallery of South Australia, the Adelaide Contemporary will include an art gallery, public sculpture park and meeting place for the city.

The gallery will be located at the eastern end of the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site, on North Terrace.

Premier of South Australia Steven Marshall said that the outcome of the competition will now be integrated with an Indigenous museum on the site.

“We want to create one of the most significant new arts and cultural destinations of 21st century Australia," the Premier said.
