Approval Granted For New $5.5 Million Eyre Sports Park

Sporting clubs and the local community in northern Adelaide will benefit from a new $5.5 million multi-use sports and recreation facility following approval from the City of Playford Council.

A joint venture between the City of Playford and developer AVJennings, the Eyre Sports Park will be centrepiece of a network of 12 community parks to be located within the heart of the Eyre Development.

The 80,000 square metre park will incorporate two large Ovals to be used for cricket, soccer and rugby league. The rugby league pitch, which will be developed to NRL standards, is set to become the State’s premier rugby league venue.

Eyre Sports Park will be home to the Central Districts Rugby League Club, Northern Wolves Soccer Club and the Rose and Crown Cricket Club. Between the two main ovals, spacious clubrooms will be built next to a large play space and alongside three all-weather, enclosed cricket nets.

The ovals and soccer pitch will be bounded on all sides by a network of landscaped reserves and walking and cycling trails, with more than 300 trees to be planted to provide a green belt.

AVJennings State Manager Brian Virgo said Eyre Sports Park would provide first-class sporting and recreational facilities for the local community.

“Eyre is progressing well with the community growing rapidly, new homes under construction and work well underway on the creation of new parks and gardens within the development.

“Upon completion, Eyre will be home to around 2,000 new homes, and approximately 5,000 residents.”

The new Eyre Sports Park will play a key role in fostering an active, vibrant and healthy community within the City of Playford as well as creating valuable local jobs during construction.

Work on the new Eyre Sports Park will coincide with work commencing on the new $12 million Eyre Village – a shopping centre with a Drakes Foodland and up to 10 speciality stores. Eyre Village will create 100 jobs during construction and more than 180 jobs through the operations of the shopping centre.
