Azurra Connects Into Frontier Networks for $2.3bn Imperial Square

Frontier Networks has been chosen as the telecommunications partner for Azzura's Imperial Square project.

Frontier Networks has been chosen as the telecommunications partner for Azzura’s massive $2.3-billion project on the Gold Coast.

SIPs are statutory infrastructure providers, like the NBN, that provide the infrastructure for telecommunication networks within Australia.

Frontier Networks works with developers to provide telecommunication infrastructure for projects but also handles building management and RSP (retail service provider).

Frontier Networks managing director Paul Mula said that working with one SIP for an entire project allows developers to save on costs and to streamline the process, as everything that runs on an internet or other telecommunication network connection is built, set up and managed by one company.

This allows the internet of things to be incorporated into the space with devices and systems integrated with each other seamlessly across one network.

“We build fibre, deliver free-to-air TV, internet and Foxtel, plus we also deliver building management including everything needed for the lifts and CCTV,” Mula said.

“We don’t subcontract—we are fully licensed to provide building management and maintenance and we heavily invested in it and integrated it into the business.”

Mula said that they also helped developers reduce costs by working with them on the design early in the project’s timeline.

“We reviewed their design and came up with alternatives that saved Azzura over $1.5 million,” Mula said of the Southport development.

“It’s simple things, like working out how many devices you need within a space for optimal efficiency and the distribution of them—you don’t often need as much as you think you do.

“We pride ourselves on building a high-quality product.”

Azzura’s Imperial Square project comprises 1965 residential units, a shopping complex and 108-storey hotel that will be the tallest in the southern hemisphere upon completion.

Azzura director Roberto Badalotti nad Mula had many conversations early in the formation of the project.

“We had a lot of chats, not in a boardroom but across a kitchen table,” Mula said.

“We were treated like we were family. The trust that has been put into our hands is immense.”

“The infinite knowledge of network infrastructure requirements and the team’s willingness to promptly assist with inquiries has been of great benefit,” Badalotti said.

“Throughout our design and build process, Frontier Networks has shown a commitment to sourcing cost efficiencies that don’t compromise on value, allowing us to deliver future-ready state-of-the-art homes for this premiere-style build.

“We are pleased to recommend their services.”

Mula said he made regularly visits project sites to advise and to be across what is happening, and has wide experience in developments, including projects in the commercial and retirement sectors.

“We are trying to be a true to alternative to the NBN,” Mula said.

“It’s personal for us—our clients are not a number.”
