Revelop has filed plans with the Hills Shire Council to transform a former rural transport yard into a new Box Hill retail centre.
The plans focus on a plot of land at 15Z and 17 Nelson Road, part of the Box Hill Road Precinct, which is one of 16 precincts in the North West Growth Centre.
The development site is a rural residential allotment that has been used as a transport yard.
Under BN Architect-designed plans, the site would become home to a two-storey mixed-use precinct of 14 retail tenancies, three medical tenancies, and two recreational facilities.
It would also offer a 140-place childcare centre and parking for 554 cars.
The precinct would be anchored by a 3600sq m full-service supermarket and a 1100sq m retail liquor store, and would also have another 1000sq m of retail space.
Also included is a 1095sq m restaurant and a gym, and a landscaped plaza at the corner of Nelson Road and The Water Lane.
The site includes the majority of the Nelson Road Village that supports the surrounding release area, according to Revelop.
The site is zoned B2 Local Centre and R4 High Density Residential, although no residential components have been proposed at this stage. A previous DA, approved in 2017 for a similar project, included 155 apartments.
Revelop said that the proposal aimed to provide a retail and commercial development that would integrate into the “ rapidly growing residential population of the area”.
The Box Hill Precinct contains land for about 9600 homes and more than 29,700 residents, a new town centre that is partially under construction, three new village centres, 133ha of employment land and 58ha of open space and recreation areas, according to Revelop.
Revelop has one of the fastest-growing portfolios in Australia with a focus on retail centres, and last year acquired a $158-million shopping centre from Mirvac.
