Amalgamated Property Group (APG) is set to transform the office market in the ACT with its new development project, Civic Quarter.
The development application for stage one of the project was lodged with the ACT Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate and will see ‘tomorrow’s workplace’ developed on a prime CBD location next to Veterans Park.
APG claim their 18,000 square metre 12-level office tower will redefine corporate lifestyle in the ACT. It will span across an entire city block bordered by Northbourne Avenue and Mort Street, and will become "a 21st century workplace that supports flexible working and wellness programmes that encourage collaboration in an agile workplace."The building will be based around leading-edge technologies while providing a clear link to the local, social and artistic landscape in which it will be built.
Its architecture is designed to complement and respect the unique green pocket of Veteran’s Park and the existing Mort Street trees within the city context.
APG General Manager Phil O'Brien said Civic Quarter will be the new gateway to the CBD in Canberra.
"As such, we understand the importance of creating a landmark building that incorporates an elegant and timeless urban design which will meet the workplace needs of the future.
"This will be Canberra’s premier office building," he said.
With Canberra’s largest new infrastructure project, the ACT Light Rail Network, located adjacent to the site on Northbourne Avenue, the development of Civic Quarter will be instrumental to the future of Canberra’s business district.
The site is also located close to the Canberra Centre, and only a block from Londsale Street in Braddon with its great food and specialty retail outlets.
“The workplace is changing and we are engaging with a number of tenants who want to provide their staff with an environment that is innovative, connected, flexible and provides the highest level of amenity," Mr O’Brien said.
APG also delivered to the ACT the award-winning Louisa Lawson Building in Tuggeranong which houses the Department of Human Services and 28 Sydney Ave, Forrest, the Canberra Offices of PwC & IBM.
Cox - Architecture and May + Russell Architects are working together to design and document the first stage of the development and the building is available for lease through Colliers International.
Civic Quarter is expected to commence early to mid 2017 on the site previously known as Northbourne Square, and should be complete and ready for occupancy by mid 2019.
