Citify Plots $150m Precinct for Adelaide’s Gilberton

ADELAIDE HISTORIC HOTEL HERO

Plans have been filed for a $150-million residential, commercial and retail precinct spanning 6200sq m behind a historic Adelaide hotel.

South Australian-based developer Citify has lodged a development application for a 10-storey apartment tower that includes 11 luxury townhouses for a north-eastern part of the site at Gilberton in Adelaide’s inner north.

The tower comprising 180 apartments would sit behind Buckingham Arms hotel. The hotel dates back to 1846.

Developers would restore the hotel during the development of the proposed mixed-use precinct, which would be known as The Buckingham.

The proposal includes the development of one-bedroom studios catering for specialist disability requirements, to high-end penthouses with four bedrooms.

Citify managing director Joel Wilkinson said there would also be apartments targeted at the first-home buyer market.

The historic hotel Buckingham Arms in Gilberton was known for its iconic smorgasbord.

He said the location in an affluent area of the SA Capital would be reflected in the building design and the completed project would cater to a diverse range of buyers.

That mix includes 32 serviced apartments, and 1230sq m of ground-floor retail space and commercial space in a separate building that is planned for the northern section of the site.

The Buckingham would be entirely electric and offer vehicle charging in the 305-space carpark, which would also include more than 100 bicycle spots.
