Construction Commences On $150 Million Narellan Town Centre

B

South-west Sydney residents have seen first signs off construction on the major $150 million Narellan Town Centre shopping centre designed by The Buchan Group Architects.

Due for completion by mid-2017, the town centre is set to revitalise the Narellan precinct by acting as a catalyst for further high quality developments in the area and surrounding suburbs.

The expansion will double the mall's floor space from 35,000sqm to 70,000sqm, with a skybridge over Camden Valley Way joining the existing and new shopping precincts together to form one cohesive regional retail centre.

[urbanRelatedPost][/urbanRelatedPost]Australasian design firm The Buchan Group was appointed by Dart West Developments in 2009 to provide architectural and interior design services to the project, revising the centre's original design concept to create a modern town centre.

Buchan Group Director Anthony Palamara said, "The project brief was developed in conjunction with Council and the owners Dartwest Developments. The process involved the consideration of international and local benchmarking to create a major townscape adorned with hard and soft landscape, flanked by restaurants and an active plaza space.""I feel in terms of a commercial development it's a generous and unselfish contribution by the developers (Dart West) in usable space for the local community. Upon completion the new build will redefine Narellan Town as a new central hub and Town Centre for the South West," he said.

"The town centre's external skybridge, two entrance lobbies and the sweeping green form of the facade have been designed to create a gateway landmark which embraces the restaurant precinct and civic plaza.""We envision the building will become the new heart of the Narellan community and look forward to seeing our designs become a reality.""The first section of the expansion will be completed for shoppers by mid-2016 and will include a Coles and Kmart store.

It is estimated approximately 1750 jobs will be created once the new centre is open.
