Contruction Starts On $345 Million Gold Coast Jupiters Expansion

Construction has commenced on Echo Entertainment Group’s $345 million refurbishment and extension of the Gold Coast Jupiters casino.

A host of dignitaries including Premier Anna Palaszczuk attended a sod turning at the Jupiter's Casino site.

Ms Palaszczuk said  investment to construct a new 6-star hotel tower and completely refurbish the entire Jupiters complex was a powerful commitment to the future prosperity of the Gold Coast.

“More than 800,000 international visitors already come to the Gold Coast each year and my Government is committed to working with the tourism industry to continue growing those numbers,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

The Jupiters hotel, once completed in early 2018, will provide more than 70 luxury suites in the new tower. That’s in addition to the 592 rooms already available within Jupiters Hotel.

"The new rooms will help accommodate the Games’ visitors and attract tourists for decades to come," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"But we don’t have to wait until 2018 to see the benefits. They start flowing now with construction of the new tower expected to create 500 jobs on-site and a further 350 to 400 off-site supporting the construction activities."Total works at the site is expected to deliver 1,700 jobs.

“Everyone on the Gold Coast has an interest in the success of the Jupiters development and the enormous spin-offs to flow from it," Ms Palaszczuk said.

“This new hotel will add enormously to the Gold Coast’s stock of 6-star accommodation, further enhancing the city’s reputation as an international destination for all sectors of the market, including the premium tourist."“It isn’t just the 6-star tourists who get to enjoy the world class development and refurbishment at Jupiters.

“The new restaurants and bars and attractive landscaping will also attract other visitors, as well as locals, who want to use and enjoy the world class facilities at the Jupiters complex.”
CEO of Echo Entertainment Group Matt Bekier said the project was a celebration of the Gold Coast.

“To that end, we have been working with local designers and international architects to ensure it resonates with the local community, as well as its broader domestic and international appeal,” Mr Bekier said.

“These are exciting times for the Gold Coast and we’re delighted to be playing be a key role in advancing the growth of tourism and jobs creation in the region."“In recent times, we have focussed on investing significantly in our properties.”

Group Chairman John O’Neill said the company was committed to positioning Jupiters as a world-class integrated resort and assist in the transformation of the Gold Coast before, during and after the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

“Our six-star hotel tower has a construction completion date that ensures its readiness for the Commonwealth Games, when the eyes of the world will be upon one of Australia’s most popular tourist destinations,” Mr O’Neill said.
