A shortlist of four bidders has been revealed for the head contractor role to take on the Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park project.
Upgrading the precinct is one of 16 projects under Victoria’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.
The program is being funded from $2.3 billion set aside for regional Victorian communities.
Building Engineering, McCorkell Constructions, SJ Higgins and ADCO Constructions have been shortlisted following an expressions of interest campaign.
Tenders for the project stipulated that bidders must be able to manage projects with an end value of more than $20 million.
Development Victoria acting group head for civic infrastructure Benjamin Delaney said the head contractor would be chosen by mid-2025. Construction is expected to begin soon after.
Brand Architects designed the plans for the upgrades.
The project includes a new pavilion with change rooms, improved pitches and lighting, and additional parking so the precinct can cater for more local and regional events.
Development Victoria has partnered with Sport and Recreation Victoria on the project and worked with the LaTrobe City Council.
The Gippsland Stadium Project is also part of the Regional Sports Infrastructure program.
Gippsland was to share hosting duties with other regional cities and hubs for the 2026 Commonwealth Games before former Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews withdrew the state.
Development Victoria was established in the 1990s as a government body to oversee the development of Docklands into a residential and commercial suburb of the City of Melbourne.
It has since been given ownership and oversight of several government-led development programs and initiatives including the Revitalising Central Dandenong project.
