Australian Innovation Tackles Basement Wall Water Leaks

Dincel is solving the universal building issue of water leaking at the basement wall, including the wall and wall to slab footing junction, helping to improve the quality and longevity of new builds.

The new Dincel Waterproof System Warranty addresses a critical pain point for building owners and occupants, reducing the risk of sick building syndrome and related health hazards such as mould and mildew, damage to stored equipment in basements, and a devalued property stemming from decay and concrete cancer.

The construction materials company founded in Australia by Burak Dincel, a practicing structural engineer, is behind the development of the proprietary building product Dincel Structural Walling, which is used to create load-bearing walls and columns in residential and commercial buildings.

Dincel’s superior permanent polymer formwork system has been widely adopted in the industry as a more efficient and cost-effective alternative to traditional building materials.

The introduction of Dincel’s new Waterproof Warranty will help to protect buildings from water ingress at the most vulnerable part of a structure, including habitable spaces under fully submerged basement conditions, for up to 50 years.

Basement wall joints can leak for several reasons. One of the most common causes is hydrostatic pressure, which is exerted by water when it accumulates around the foundation of a building.

This water pressure can build up slowly or more rapidly when there is a flood event, pushing against the walls, and causing cracks and gaps to form in the joints. Over time, this pressure can cause the joints to weaken and leak.

Another reason basement wall joints can leak is due to poor construction practices.

If the basement walls were not properly constructed or the joints were not sealed correctly, water can seep through the gaps and enter the basement.

Additionally, if the waterproofing materials used to protect the basement walls were not applied properly or have deteriorated over time, this can also lead to leaks in the joints.

To prevent basement wall joints from leaking, it is important to ensure proper construction practices, including proper sealing of the joints and application of waterproofing materials.

Offering up to 50 years of zero leakage, the new Dincel Waterproof Warranty incorporates the Dincel Wall, the Dincel Water Stop accessory, self-compacting concrete and an injection system, with Dincel’s own construction experts supervising and overseeing the entire installation process from footing construction to resin injection.

“Dincel continues to invest heavily in research and development to further improve building outcomes,” Burak Dincel said.

“By being able to design and manufacture the Dincel Water Stop accessory, we can offer this industry-first zero leak basement construction solution, benefitting both commercial and residential developments.”
