Government Moves Ahead on Kangaroo Point Pedestrian Bridge

The Queensland government will put money toward developing a business case for the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge.

The Kangaroo Point Bridge, originally proposed in the 19th century, was one of six priority projects put forward as part of the Brisbane City Council city centre master plan in 2013.

The proposed pedestrian and cycling-only bridge will connect Kangaroo Point with the Brisbane City Centre over the Brisbane river.

The state government said that it will grant $230,000 of the available $22 million under round two of its infrastructure pipeline program, MIPP.

“The interest from councils in the program has been overwhelming," Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said.

“For the local communities this means building strong local governments with vital investment in early stage planning for projects."

The business case for the bridge will commence in 2018-19.

The $30 million MIPP is delivered across two rounds to grow infrastructure projects from promising ideas into solid proposals.

The Palaszczuk government is working with 22 local governments and industry to assess 40 new infrastructure proposals including an Ipswich stadium business case and a business case for a Beaudesert Library.
