A builder has been appointed for a $353-million residential development on the southern Gold Coast.
Developer David Devine’s DD Living has selected Gowdie Management Group (GMG) to deliver the $535-million Burly Residences at North Burleigh.
The appointment comes after site preparation works on the 2024sq m double beachfront site at The Esplanade, where groundworks for the 25-level development have been completed.
DD Living secured approval for the development in April, 2023 after amalgamating two sites.
The developer in 2022 won approval for a $105-million project dubbed Alba Residences but revised plans after acquiring the neighbouring 1012sq m site.
GMG, established in 2004, operates across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Director John Gowdie has more than 30 years of construction industry experience, including roles at Lend Lease and Walter Corporation.
“John and I have been personal friends for many years through a joint association with the Brisbane Lions supporters’ association and have always wanted to do business together,” Devine said.
The 25-storey development comprises 101 apartments.
Six-star resort and lifestyle amenity across two levels includes swimming pools, gymnasium, private cinema, dining facilities and more.
Designed by Koichi Takada Architects, the apartments feature balconies of 17sq m to 106 square metres.
Koichi Takada said the “architectural design is inspired by the whitewash meeting the sand and the facade echoes the natural curvature of the coastline”.
“We wanted to maximise the connection with nature and encourage residents to take advantage of the lifestyle within this subtropical climate,” Takada said.
The site has 40m of beach frontage.
The project marks a significant expansion from DD Living’s original plans, with the developer noting in the approval documentation that site amalgamation on The Esplanade “delivers a better result for both the apartment purchaser and the Gold Coast community”.
Initial works, including demolition, services relocation and basement retention, have been completed. The project is scheduled for completion in 2027.
