Metricon Homes has been revealed as Australia's number one residential builder, based on the number of home builds commenced this past year.
Figures released through the HIA-Colorbond steel Housing 100 Report listed the nation's top 100 residential builders, marking 2017-18 as one of the strongest years on record with 222,000 new homes commenced.
Results also indicated the year as the strongest for detached house builders in the last 18 years.
The builders listed were responsible for 69 per cent of the detached homes built in Australia over the past year with revenue earned increasing by 12.3 per cent to $25.39 billion in 2017-18.
Metricon Homes was named Australia’s number one home builder for the third year in a row, reporting a total of 4,764 starts across Victoria, Queensland, NSW and South Australia – 400 more homes than a year earlier.

“We are delighted to be ranked number one for the third consecutive year,” Metricon director Peter Langfelder said.
“Our customers have and always will be our top priority, and it is a privilege that Australian home buyers continue to trust us with the most important purchase of their lives.”
Interestingly, the number of homes built by the top 100 builders in Australia fell for the first time in five years.
The report highlighted a shift in focus from building businesses away from the number of homes, to instead improving the efficiency of their business in preparation for a slowdown across the market over the next couple of years.
“Encouragingly, the report highlights that there is still a strong building industry and demand for quality home builds Australia-wide,” Langfelder said.
