ACT Hellenic Club’s Woden Valley Hotel Plan Approved

Hellenic Club HERO development.

The third stage of the $146-million redevelopment of Canberra’s Greek club, with a hotel at its heart, in Woden Valley has been approved.

The approval of the latest stage of the Hellenic Club of Canberra’s redevelopment clears the way for a 12-storey hotel comprising 151 hotel rooms and ground-floor restaurants with a bar.

The hotel will also include an auditorium on levels one and two, plus an indoor activities space, guest service and a gym.

The approvals means all three stages of the development have now been greenlit by the ACT’s Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate.

The existing Hellenic Club of Canberra is home to Greek Restaurant, Woden Bistro.

Stage one will include the development of a 757-space multi-level basement carpark. Work is due to begin early next year.

Existing carpark structures will be partially demolished under the scheme for stage three.

Stage two includes a 16-storey office building with a sky terrace and a podium.

Hellenic Club board president Andrew Satsias said the club had “held true to our focus on a non-residential development and identified multiple commercial anchors to drive foot traffic and visitation to our site and the broader town centre”.

Canberra’s Hellenic Club  was established more than 40 years and has oer its history had more than 50,000 members.

Close to Canberra’s Northbourne Avenue, the club neighbours the site of Liebke and Co’s eight-storey residential tower dubbed Ahlei.

Construction on it is slated to begin mid-2024 ahead of an expected finish in 2026.
