Vicinity’s 25-year vision for Bankstown Central is among projects chosen to be fast-tracked under the second round of recommendations by NSW’s Housing Delivery Authority.
The plans by the retail giant, in partnership with Coronation Properties, include 1300 apartments—a big slice of the 8600 shovel-ready homes given the go-ahead by the authority this time around.
Also among the recommendations were Mirvac’s 1200-apartment plans at 411 Botany Road, Zetland, and Landcom and Link Wentworth’s Lachlan’s Line towers.
Woolworths subsidiary Fabcot’s plans at Neutral Bay were also greenlit. See the full list below.
But Billbergia’s 1600-home plans for a site at Chandos, Herbert and Christie streets, St Leonards were among those not recommended. The plan for the North Shore was deemed “too complex” for the new state significant development pathway.
It was one of more than a dozen applications passed over due to not meeting the size, affordability, or delivery criteria, or due to complex environmental issues.
Other developers to dip out this time included Holdmark, Mathieson Property and WINIM.
The latest round brings to 29 total recommendations, more than 15,000 homes following on from the first round announcements just 10 days earlier.
The authority is accepting expressions of interest for major residential developments above $60 million in metropolitan areas and $30 million in regional NSW.
More than 200 expressions of interest have been submitted since the process opened in January.
The authority is prioritising high-quality housing projects with detailed plans that could be submitted within nine months and could begin construction within 12 months of approval.
All proposals declared as an SSD would have their development applications assessed by the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure and do not need council approval.
