Luxury hotel developer ITC Hotels has released plans for two Gensler-designed skyscrapers to be built in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The new US$400 million ($A550 million) development comprises a 224 metre tall residential tower dubbed the Sapphire Residences which will be set alongside a 140 metre tall ITC One hotel.
The Sapphire Residences component will provide 132 luxury apartments with a 54-metre-long sky bridge connecting the parallel towers between the 19th and 21st floors.
The project will be located on the prestigious Galle Face, at the heart of Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo.
“Our objective was to develop a new icon for the country on this ultra-prime Colombo coastline that would be recognisable across the globe,” WelcomHotels Lanka Limited managing director Arun Pathak said.
“This inspired us to bring together and collaborate with an exceptional team of international designers to deliver this truly striking development, comprising the finest collection of apartments and penthouses in the region.”
French interior designer Philippe Starck is working with London-based interior designers Yoo to develop four different options for Sapphire Residence homeowners to choose from.
“I wanted to create a place that draws people together, that makes them laugh, make them more in love, more sparkling, more intelligent," Philippe Starck said.
Each apartment will be pre-wired to a "state of the art" Home Automation System via voice recognition.
ITC Hotels has developed and operates more than 100 hotels in over 70 destinations across the country.
The ITC One hotel and adjacent Sapphire Residences is the developers first project in the burgeoning Sri Lankan market.
Currently under construction the development is expected to be complete by 2021.
