Green Tower Proposed To Be Shining Light Of Kangaroo Point

Lying amongst the development applications in the hands of Brisbane City Council is a proposal for a building that could quite literally be the shining light of Brisbane’s cityscape.

The proposed project is called Jardino, named from the Italian word ‘giardino’ of the French origin, jardin, meaning garden. It is the brain child of Brisbane architects Bureau Proberts and according to them, "is a modern expression of the backyard garden".

“Jardino an iconic equipoise monolith to complement the view from the city, a visible, vertical garden, it celebrates the river’s edge as a green and shady space. The building design incorporates principles that denote an organic form with living greenery hanging from it with ow through ventilation promoting the subtropical way of life.” - Bureau Proberts

Jardino is proposed to be located on Hamilton Street, Kangaroo Point, and will be the Peninsula’s latest residential tower offering Brisbane River and City views to future residents.

According to the application, Jardino is proposed to be 19 storeys, however with high-density residential zone allowing for only for 15 storeys, that development is impact assessable and subject to public objections.

However, if Jardino is able to make it past Council scrutiny and achieve height exemption, it will be able to deliver on its designer’s intention of creating something that will offer a confluence of the city skyline. A ‘view for the view’ is what Bureau Proberts dubs their design – a project that seeks to reinforce the view for the City Centre’s River Precinct.

The development would include 17 full-floor units, 38 resident car parks and three visitor spaces. The development in total would have a gross floor area of 6,341 square metres. It features a multi-layered façade, made up of a real vertical garden. The exterior make-up of lush flora has been added to reflect Queensland's subtropical climate and in response will offer an opportunity to deliver subtropical residences in a breathable, green tower.

Rather than insisting upon itself, Bureau Proberts have stated in their plan that Jardino has the potential to contribute positively to the people of Brisbane and their cityscape. They believe Jardino could assist in platforming the future pedestrian link for the area, promoting the Planning Scheme's direction for a stronger connection to Kangaroo Point.

Lighting Plans

Jardino intends on interacting with Brisbane every second of every hour, every hour of every day, and so on. The 'subtropical' appearance provides living greenery by day for people to lay eyes on, and then when night falls Jardino will shine with a creative light mode. To achieve this, Jardino plans on utilising Anolis ArcDots across its entire exterior.

These ‘ArcDots’ are high-powered multicoloured LED fixture that guarantees flicker-free driving, overheat protection, easy remote maintenance and long-term reliability. IP67 rated precision turned aluminium housing with frosted UV stable polycarbonate dome allows flexible solutions to both interior and exterior environments.

ArcDots in actionAccording to Bureau Proberts, the lighting is intended for the benefit of the city, and not the residents. In line with current illumination initiatives, Jardino’s lighting system will offer a night illumination concept to act in a manner to complement the Council initiative to light up the Story Bridge.

 Courier Mail, a Bureau Proberts spokesperson said Jardino has a sense of feeling at home and having the same benefits of a single detached dwelling where people have their own garden and are surrounded by trees and greenery rather than looking directly into someone else’s apartment.
