The pipeline of affordable home projects in Queensland has again been bumped up, with 483 homes to be built across four suburbs in the south-east corner of the state.
The developments are part of the state’s Homes for Queenslanders plan that aims to deliver a million homes by 2046, supported by the $2-billion Housing Investment Fund.
Tetris Capital, Metricon, National Affordable Housing, KDL Property Group and ANZ have created a consortium, Everyone’s Place, and partnered with the Queensland government to deliver the homes at Burpengary East, Jimboomba, Logan Reserve and Joyner.
All four are defined as growth suburbs with 85 per cent of their residents earning low and moderate incomes, and 40 per cent of those renting in housing stress.
Of the homes, 349 are slated to be built in the Moreton Bay region and 134 in Logan.
The project will comprise 257 three-bedroom homes, 85 two-bedroom homes and 141 one-bedroom homes.
Metricon chief executive Brad Duggan said it had created a new division to help it deliver the homes, EveryOne Homes.
“To begin construction in October 2024, with completion expected in approximately 2½ years, this project will create over 100 new jobs at Metricon and throughout our supply chain,” Duggan said.
Metricon also informed The Urban Developer that the project was worth more than $100 million to the builder and was the single largest project awarded to it to date.
It also made the news recently as the country's largest builder according to the HIA.
The first tenants are expected to move in around the middle of next year and the final home completed in 2027.
KDL is also on track to complete more than 1100 new homes in Greater Brisbane in the next three years.
Meanwhile, Tetris Capital has started work in partnership with the Queensland Government on the state’s largest social and affordable housing project, in Cairns.
