Laguna, North Lakes – Brisbane’s Most Anticipated Mixed-Use Precinct

Billed as one of Brisbane’s most highly anticipated mixed-use projects, ‘Laguna’ is a large 1.7-hectare precinct being developed in the heart of the North Lakes CBD by the team behind the city’s iconic James Street precinct, the George Group, in joint venture with award-winning local developer Pointcorp.

The recently launched, $250million project will feature over 10,500sqm of commercial office space, a 140-room hotel, 5,000sqm of curated retail space as well as a function and event centre and a range of community facilities.

George Group director Patrick George said that as a true mixed-use precinct, Laguna has been designed for the benefit of not only the office workers based within the precinct itself, but also the surrounding community as a whole.

“North Lakes is one the fastest growing municipalities in Australia, but rapid residential and commercial growth has meant that the provision of local amenity has simply not kept up with demand,” Mr George said.

“As such, we are striving to create a central village heart for the whole North Lakes community to shop, dine, relax and unwind in, but also provide a level of amenity that the region desperately needs.”

“The combined provision of a diverse range of retailers and hospitality operators, the brand new Laguna Drive high-street retail environment and publicly accessible landscaped gardens, will support a highly engaging, activated public realm that will be buzzing with activity 24/7,” Mr George added.

Reflecting the joint-venture’s desire to create a leading mixed-use precinct, Laguna will also include a diverse range of community and health and wellness facilities. A large on-site aquatic centre will include a lagoon-style swimming pool as well as a ‘learn to swim’ pool and a 2,000sqm gymnasium will also provide space for recreation and fitness related activities.

Furthermore, Laguna will also be home to the region’s largest dedicated private function space. The regionally significant space will overlook landscaped rooftop gardens and provide a diverse range of options for local businesses to hold major events, conferences and exhibitions within. A 3,000sqm poolside, resort-style hospitality venue will also provide the local business community with a large format space to serve their entertainment requirements.

Pointcorp Director, Chris Vitale said that Laguna’s world-class facilities, sustainable office space, community amenity and lively retail offering will set a benchmark in mixed-use development for not only Brisbane, but all of Australia.

“Leveraging the George Group’s and Pointcorp’s combined expertise and long history of creating vibrant precincts, Laguna is set to become one of the country’s leading examples of community orientated mixed-use projects,” Mr Vitale said.

“Laguna will create a vibrant new community heart for both northern Brisbane and the city as whole.”

Construction of the precinct is planned to commence in early 2018, with completion targeted for late 2020.
