Hotels Plan for Launceston Corner Sites Scaled Down

TAS Boutique and Warehouse Hotel HERO.

An amended application has been filed to scale down approved plans for joint hotels at Launceston in north-eastern Tasmania.

The plans include the development of two connected hotels—Boutique Hotel and Warehouse Hotel.

As part of the development, surrounding buildings would be refurbished and heritage buildings, including the former Alfred Harrap and Sons warehouse, repurposed.

Global Premium Hotels reportedly picked up 116-128 Cimitiere Street, Launceston, for more than $7 million in 2016. It won approval for the two interconnected hotels win 2020.

Under the proposed amendments, the project’s maximum 12 storeys would reduce to 9 storeys; as well as reducing the number of rooms for the Warehouse Hotel from 230 to 179.

The proposed Warehouse Hotel at the corner of Tamar and Cimitiere streets would comprise 179 hotel rooms, a restaurant and bar on the ground floor and function rooms on the first floor.

There would be a gym and spa on level seven of the hotel as well as retail shops on the ground floor, plus a a link to connect the two hotels.

The Boutique Hotel would be on the corner of William and Tamar streets on a site now occupied by the Clarion Hotel and historic stables.

The Boutique Hotel would have 55 rooms plus a pedestrian link connecting to the Warehouse Hotel.
