Plans lodged by a consortium of developers to launch the first stage of an Adelaide masterplan are on exhibition.
Locale Corporation Pty Ltd, a conglomerate of the Chapley family’s Commercial Retail Group, Buildtec and Peet Limited, successfully bid to become a development partner at the 3.6ha Forestville site in 2022.
Their proposal seeks to build upon and enhance a three-stage masterplan vision for the site, after RenewalSA bought the long-vacant site in November 2020.
It was formerly the home of furniture retailer LeCornu, which closed in 2016.
If approved, the consortium will deliver an eight-level residential building as part of Stage 1 of the development on land at 10 Anzac Highway.
This section of Stage 1 of the site will be built on a 4130sq m lot that is part of a wider site 3.5km south-west of the Adelaide CBD at the prominent corner of Leader Street and Anzac Highway.
The eight-storey building will consist of 130 units, with 44 affordable one-bedroom homes, and 67 two-bedroom and 19 three-bedroom apartments.
Stage 2 of Locale is a mixed-use precinct, with a ‘piazza-style’ market square with a range of shops, market stores and outdoor eateries, a 6600sq m supermarket and an urban farm.
It will also include an undetermined number of residential apartments, including affordable housing to achieve the 15 per cent target for the entire Locale site.
The third stage will be located on the western side of the site and provide a “high-density urban form that frames Anzac Highway and the corner to Leader Street.
It will include apartments, shops and tourist accommodation.
The plans for the apartment building of Stage 1 are on exhibition until February 22.
