Developer Paul Little has inked a deal with Hyatt Hotels for his recently announced Melbourne CBD hotel project, with the operator opening Melbourne’s first Hyatt Centric-branded hotel.
The Architectus-designed hotel will look to open its doors at the Downie Street site in 2020. The retired Toll Holdings chief bought the site in the western corner of the CBD for $28.6 million in 2017.
Located at what Little has coined the “Meatpacking District” of Melbourne, the new hotel will feature 280 rooms, a restaurant and a rooftop bar that will make good on the panoramic views available of Melbourne’s Yarra River and Southbank.
“Melbourne’s cosmopolitan vibe makes it an ideal destination for a Hyatt Centric hotel,” Hyatt Asia Pacific group president David Udell said.
A builder is expected to be appointed late 2018, with demolition of the existing dwelling on site expected to occur in June 2018.
