Work has begun on the latest addition to Place Development’s $425-million masterplanned community south of Perth.
The $13-million Long Point Brewing Co is a hospitality development in a new waterfront community at Port Kennedy, an outer suburb of the Western Australian capital.
Place Development called it a “jewel” of its Kennedy Bay masterplanned community upon its groundbreaking ceremony this month.
Designed by MJA Studio and built by Hoskins Contracting, the brewery is projected to attract 180,000 visitors annually.
The two-storey brewpub will house a craft brewery, restaurant and function space to accommodate 500 guests.
Part of the second stage of the Village Centre, Long Point is expected to open its doors in 2026, having been approved by the Metro Outer Development Assessment Panel in August 2024.
The project is a joint venture between co-founder Shane Wormall of Perth construction company Wormall Group and the West Australian Beach & Golf Resort.
The 66ha Kennedy Bay community project will also deliver a new golf clubhouse with a restaurant and upgrades to its Links Kennedy Bay golf course, a new commercial and retail village of which Long Point Brewing is part.
The residential element includes 900 homes with access to beach, public jetty and moorings.
Long Point joins a host of other breweries that have been key to placemaking projects across Australia, including Felons Brewing Co at Howard Smith Wharves, which also expanded into Sydney’s Manly Wharf last year, and Gage Roads Brewing, which opened a venue at Walyalup Waterfront in 2022.
Scottish brewing powerhouse BrewDog launched its $30-million brewery in 2019 and subsequently opened up shop in Fortitude Valley before launching in Perth in collaboration with Australian Venue Co in 2024.
