From the $2-billion new waterfront casino to Harry Triguboff’s second apartment skyscraper in as many years—as well as a number of high-end boutique apartments projects—the city is primed for major development and growth.
The Star Entertainment Group’s $2-billion mixed-use residential and hotel towers at Broadbeach Island will comprise 1200 hotel rooms, suites and 900 residences across four towers.
The project’s first stage, Tower One—due for completion in 2022—features 423 apartments and a 316-guest room Dorsett hotel above a 12,000sq m podium with 3600sq m of retail space.
The second stage of The Star Residences, the 63-storey Epsilon, will house 457 residential apartments, a 5-star hotel, expected to be a Marriott brand W Hotel, and retail offering of fine-dining, gourmet delis, cafes and wine bars. It is due for completion in 2024.

Devine Development Group is planning to build a 38-storey golden tower on a beachfront site in Surfers Paradise after picking up the site with previously approved plans.
The $340-million development includes 108 apartments with an average price point of $3 million for the site at 7-9 Northcliffe Terrace. It will be Devine’s second Gold Coast tower, adding to its long-held plans for Alba Residences in north Burleigh.

Melbourne’s most prolific apartment developer will turn its gaze to reshaping the Gold Coast’s skyline with a $500-million luxury tower.
Central Equity bought its initial Garfield Terrace site in 2007 and spent $18 million and 14 years amalgamating a further 19 titles. The developer will deliver a 56-storey ‘luxury’ apartment tower, Pacific One, at Garfield Terrace, Northcliffe, its first outside Melbourne.

Tim Gurner's first project on the Gold Coast, a towering $1.75-billion mixed-use development at Budds Beach, has been approved. The four-tower project will be built across a 1.3ha site at 112 Ferny Avenue, the former site of collapsed developer Ralan Group.
It will be built above a mezzanine level and a three-storey consolidated podium for 1250 parking spaces. The podium will be topped with a “waterway lagoon” with tropical landscaping and poolside water retreats, in addition to food and beverage tenancies, retail and open space.

Sydney-based developer Weiya Holdings has plans to transform the historic Burleigh Theatre building on the Gold Coast into a residential and commercial precinct.
The 14-storey tower will be called the De-Luxe Apartments after the mid-century De Luxe Theatre and Old Burleigh Arcade, which were incorporated into the design.
The 90-year-old building—a popular cinema and dance hall from the 1930s—was remodelled in 1955 and again in 1976, with most of its original fixtures removed.
