Melbourne Architect Wins International Store Of The Year Award

Melbourne architecture and interior design practice Travis Walton Architecture has beat international design powerhouse Zaha Hadid  to win Best International Store of the Year at the UK Retail Week Interior Awards.

Dubbed the ‘Oscars for Retail Design,’ the awards recognised the firm's work on the  New York-inspired Greene Street Juice Co. in Prahran. Greene St Juice Co. grabbed the prize for International Store of the Year, coming out ahead of global design firms including Zaha Hadid Architects.

The Retail Week Interior Awards were announced at the Hilton Hotel in London and recognised the UK’s top retailers and international industry leaders.

“The brief with Greene Street Juice was to capture a sense of New York City without being too overt,” said Mr Walton.

“Our design response concealed the back-of-house functions from view and broke down the traditional sales counter design to individual ‘pod-like’ timber and stone units. The end result is a more fluid exploration of the space allowing for a more consultative-type customer experience.”

Design details include white metal structures throughout the space (an interpretation of New York’s bridges and fire escapes), and signature Greene Street glass bottles that integrate seamlessly with recessed shelving cutouts, and a custom ice well sits neatly at the entry to service regular ‘grab-n-go’ customers.

TWA Director Travis Walton said he was "honoured" to be recognised alongside world-class practices since making the debut in the international design scene only six years ago.
