Woolworths have signed an historic deal to build two new supermarkets at Meriton developments in Sydney and the Gold Coast.

The two companies have announced a 3,200 square metre Woolworths supermarket at Meriton’s Mascot Central in Sydney, comprising 1,200 residential and serviced apartments alongside Woolworths and 16 supporting shops.

The 1,200 square metre supermarket at the 55-storey Sundale at Southport, Queensland, will consist of 551 residential and serviced apartments accompanied by 12 supporting shops.

“We’re delighted to welcome on board such an iconic Australian brand,” said Meriton National Leasing and Asset Manager Omri Zelunzuk.

“Woolworths will be an integral part of our retail offering in both locations, creating a neighbourhood shopping centre that will act as a meeting hub for our residential community. We’re looking forward to seeing Australia’s largest supermarket chain open at Mascot and Southport.”

“Woolworths is always happy to be associated with quality developments and these new stores will offer fantastic convenience for our customers,” said Ross Finlay, Group Property Operations Manager (North), for Woolworths Limited.

The partnership is the first for the companies and was driven by Meriton’s focus on modern community developments with retail, recreational and childcare facilities on site.

Both projects are due for completion in 2016.
