These Are the World's Best Unbuilt Projects

The world's best unbuilt or incomplete projects have been celebrated at the 2019 MIPIM Architectural Review future project awards.

Now in its 18th year, the awards are the only competition exclusively celebrating excellence in unbuilt or incomplete projects across a range of different categories.

This year's winning projects were honoured at the prize giving ceremony at the JW Marriott Hotel in Cannes, with 15 projects taking home the top prizes and a further 20 being commended for their work.

The award for the Future Project of the Year was won by MVSA Architects + Stefano Boeri Architetti for their Wonderwoods project in Utrecht, Netherlands.

Mirvac and Coombes Property Group's $1 billion 505 George Street project was the standout project in the tall buildings category.

The two developers teamed up to build a super-tall apartment tower in 2014, with Coombes acquiring the site at 505 George Street, Sydney for $85 million.

Early last year, Ingenhoven and Architectus scheme was selected by the developers as the winner of its hotly-contested international design competition, beating out submissions from Fjmt, Bates Smart, SOM + Crone, Foster + Partners and Wilkinson Eyre.

Construction is expected to take approximately five years with commencement billed for 2020.

Once realised, the tower will rise 270 metres, comprising 80-storeys and more than 65,000sq m of gross floor area.
