Leading architectural firm
Bates Smart has set a new standard in workplace design with the completion of
Corrs Chambers Westgarth’s new head office in Sydney’s
8 Chifley Square development.
The groundbreaking office design will see Corrs’ partners and lawyers leaving their traditional offices behind and sharing open plan space with executive assistants and junior lawyers.
8 Chifley Square is a 30 storey premium office building in Sydney’s CBD that has been developed and constructed by
Mirvac in partnership with investment partner K-REIT Australia.
Located on a prominent north-facing site fronting Elizabeth, Hunter and Phillip Street, the
Richard Rogers and
Lippmann Partnership-designed building comprises 19,000 square metres over 21 office levels and a 5 level lobby.
The building features seven village spaces, each with two, three and four-storey atria, with single floors for tenant expansion and contraction flexibility.
The design provides a dynamic “vertical village” and a fluid, mobile and sustainable work environment that supports the Corrs business vision.
The decision to remove private offices was made by Corrs in order to increase collaboration and mentoring while also ensuring opportunities of quiet focussed work and meeting spaces for group interaction.
“A new standard in legal workplaces has been set with the fit out at 8 Chifley. The design and fit out offers Corrs incredible flexibility and will change the way they align themselves with their clients and other service professionals,” said Bates Smart Director, Simon Swaney.
Bates Smart won the Corrs Chambers Westgarth fit out through a design competition that provided designers an opportunity to use their expertise to fully design a concept for the progressive law firm.
Corrs has committed to 8,000 square metres of office space and joins QBE Insurance and Quantium as major tenants in the building.
8 Chifley has achieved a 6 Star Green Star – Office Design v2 certified rating by the Green Building Council of Australia, representing ‘World Leadership’ in environmental sustainability practices.
Bates Smart have also designed some of Australia’s most innovative workplace interiors, including the Sydney head offices of Facebook, Goodman Group, Clayton Utz, and Fairfax.
