Top-tier contractor Multiplex has completed work on the fifth and final commercial office tower at Walker Corporation's $2.5 billion Collins Square development.
The $168.5 million commercial tower, located at 727 Collins Street in Melbourne’s CBD, is the last of a collection of buildings spanning an entire city block combining to more than 250,000sq m of commercial space and 10,000sq m of retail.
The 33-storey tower provides a total area of approximately 40,000sq m of commercial office space, and includes an integrated fit-out for anchor tenant Transurban who have taken seven levels.
Collins Square Tower 5, designed by Woods Bagot, features high quality office space and mobile phone-controlled lifts.
“We are proud to deliver the final tower at Collins Square, completing this premier commercial precinct for Melbourne,” Multiplex regional managing director Graham Cottam said.
Mirvac experienced significant challenges during construction which commenced early-2017.
The main concern resided around the tower's location above a seven-level operational commercial carpark and close proximity to Collins Square Tower 4.
“The smooth delivery of this major project is a reflection of our on-going collaboration with Walker Corporation, which has seen Multiplex deliver the last four towers at Collins Square,” Cottam said.
The Collins Square precinct was developed in close collaboration with the Victorian Government, with first two towers reaching completion in 2012, followed by the third and fourth towers in 2014.
The precinct boasts the highest concentration of environmentally sustainable buildings in the Southern Hemisphere, holding a Green Star Design and As Built v3 Rating as well as a minimum NABERS Energy 5 Star Rating.
