St Kilda Tower Plans Making Waves

S

A 95m high wave-shaped tower could be added to the St Kilda skyline in the near future.

Drekoncile has submitted a proposal to the City of Port Phillip for the striking tower, One St Kilda Junction, to be built on a 2, 336sqm site at 8-12 Punt Road and 3-7 Wellington Street.

Plus Architecture has designed a 28-level building that would include 286 apartments, 5,230sqm of commercial office space, 958sqm of retail space (5 tenancies), a communal terrace and resident facilities and a six-level basement with 403 car spaces, 247 storage areas and 103 bike spaces.

Apartments would come in studio, one bedroom, two bedroom, three bedroom and four bedroom configurations.

In an unusual move, the proposed tower would also feature digital screens over levels 3 and 4 for billboard advertising. The semitransparent panels would still allow for views and light to  the offices located on levels 3 and 4. The panels could also be used for art installations.

The wave shape of the building, according to Plus Architecture's design statement, was suitable for a "symbolic building".
