Palm Beach Development Pipeline Still Pumping

Palm Beach Esplanade DA render hero

The development tide is still on the rise at Palm Beach at the southern end of the Gold Coast.

Plans have been filed for a 10-storey beachfront tower comprising 16 apartments, including a sprawling double-storey penthouse.

It is earmarked for a 824sq m site at 440-442 The Esplanade and would replace two two-storey homes.

The proposal has been lodged by an entity linked to Marwan Chanine, the managing director of family-owned, Sydney-based developer Chanine Developments.

“Palm Beach is currently transitioning from ageing and un

erdeveloped building forms to more intense urban development outcomes that are more reflective of the area’s characteristics and services,” a planning report said.

“The proposed development is consistent with this emerging pattern of development.”

According to the submitted plans, the tower would accommodate a mix of 15 three-bedroom apartments and a five-bedroom penthouse on levels 8 and 9 with exclusive access to  a landscaped rooftop terrace with a pool and covered barbecue and alfresco area.

On the ground floor, the proposal features 197sq m of communal recreation space on the northern side of the site, including a residents pool, deck areas and day beds.

The midrise tower scheme has been designed by CD Architects with slab edges adorned with a distinctive shark’s nose detail and curved feature walls integrated into the building’s facades and layered to break up the bulk and scale of the podium.

“Emulating the sinuous movements found in nature, the design manifests in a curvilinear facade that echoes the undulating contours of both sand dunes and waves,” a submitted architectural statement said.

Three basement levels would provide 55 carparking spaces.

Meanwhile, as The Urban Developer exclusively reported recently, Gold Coast pro surfer-turned-Grammy nominated DJ Paul Fisher also has got some skin in the development game at Palm Beach. Fisher, as he is known to his millions of fans, is behind plans filed for a nine-storey apartment tower at Jefferson Lane.

Its design includes six full-floor three-bedroom apartments crowned by a double-storey four-bedroom penthouse with a private rooftop pool and entertaining area.
