The final design of the new Pimpama train station has been revealed.
It is one three new stations, alongside Hope Island and Merrimac, being delivered on the Gold Coast as part of south-east Queensland’s landmark Cross River Rail project.
ADCO Constructions was appointed to design and construct the station and construction began in late 2022.
Since then, work had been under way to finalise the design of the station in parallel with the construction program, taking into account community feedback.
The new Pimpama station will include lifts on each platform, accessible carparks and taxi bays, and accessible wayfinding.
On site, 189 piles have been installed for the station’s platform foundations and retaining wall, while builders are preparing to put in the structural steel frames for the platforms, as well as new overhead electrical portals that will span the station building.
Major construction is expected to be completed by late 2024.
After “several crucial stages to ensure the station can operate safely and efficiently, including a period of extensive testing and commissioning and integration with existing public transport services, Pimpama station is expected to open in 2025,” the Government said.
Also on the Gold Coast, early works and site-setup activities are under way at Hope Island and Merrimac stations, with major construction to begin at both sites in the near future.
Cross River Rail is an underground heavy rail project under construction in Brisbane that includes the development of a new rail line underneath Brisbane River, alongside the redevelopment of several stations in the Brisbane central business district and along the Beenleigh railway line.
The project consists of a new 10.2km line through the CBD from Dutton Park in the city’s south to Bowen Hills in the north, connecting existing Brisbane rail lines.
The project includes 5.9 km of twin tunnels and will deliver four new underground stations at Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street, with Exhibition station upgraded.
The new line is expected to be operational in 2026.
