The winners of the 2020 Queensland Architecture Awards have been announced.

Across 14 categories, 40 awards were given including named awards, architecture awards and commendations from 122 shortlisted projects.

Due to ongoing Covid-19 related restrictions, the winners were announced via a digital ceremony by the Queensland Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects.

Jury chair and director of Cox Architecture Richard Coulson said each of the awarded projects reflected a response to the environment in their own way.

“The projects include opportunities that allow many members of the Queensland public to benefit from good architectural design,” Coulson said.

“They include innovation in technology and materials balanced with a pragmatic response to climate—a hallmark of Queensland Architecture.”

Mon Repos Turtle Centre by Kirk was awarded the prestigious Queensland Architecture Medallion as well as the FDG Stanley Award for Public Architecture and the Harry Marks Award for Sustainable Architecture.

The project, located in the Bundaberg region of Queensland’s central coast, is centred around Australia's most integral turtle nesting ground.

Partnering architects behind Queensland University of Technology’s Peter Coaldrake Education Precinct, also picked up three honours.

Winners of awards and named awards will progress to the National Architecture Awards to be announced in November.
