A new priority development area 42km north of Brisbane’s CBD has been proposed to unlock more than 3700 homes for the suburb in the City of Moreton Bay.
Once declared, the North Harbour Priority Development Area (PDA) would expedite an initial stage of 200 homes, and further detailed planning undertaken for the remainder of the PDA area alongside the council and the developer.
North Harbour Holdings project director Bryan Finney said the announcement was a watershed moment for the project, which had been subject to process delays for more than a decade.
“The announcement is a clear statement that the State Government will work in partnership with local government and the private sector to unlock ... projects that deliver jobs and housing,” Finney said.
“We worked with state and local government to deliver our recently opened business park, where 280,000sq m has already sold and settled.
“This decision on our marina will lay the groundwork required for the project to move forward with certainty.”
More than 4000 people already call North Harbour home. Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie said the new tranche of development would support more than 1800 jobs and deliver a $450-million boost to the region.
Bleijie said the declaration of the new PDA would cut red tape and expedite the delivery of homes in the growth City of Moreton Bay region.
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said the construction of apartments and standalone housing would inject millions into the local economy.
“The development of a marina at the site will unlock a new local marine industry, from boatbuilding to repairs, generating more skilled employment opportunities for our residents,” Flannery said.
