The Queensland government has topped up its regional infrastructure program with a $100 million boost.
The new funding goes on top of $200 million already allocated to the Works for Queensland program, bringing to $300 million what is available to regional councils under the 2024-2027 funding round.
Funding will be available to 65 regional councils for essential community infrastructure projects as part of the program.
It is intended to support critical projects such as water and sewerage infrastructure, housing, and regional economic development.
Funding guidelines for councils will be developed in consultation with the Local Government Association of Queensland and released in April, 2024.
The Works for Queensland investment now stands at $1.1 billion over five rounds since 2016, according to the state government.Decking upgrades for Fraser Coast jetties, sewage and water treatment facilities in Rockhampton, renewal and upgrade of the Gladstone Aquatic Centre, and road maintenance projects in Far North Queensland are among projects funded since the program was launched in 2016.
“We know regional councils do much of the heavy lifting needed to build and grow great communities,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
“It will support critical local projects such as water infrastructure, housing and regional economic development.”
