Data is the most untapped resource when it comes to construction. For every workflow created or new paver laid, there is another layer of unexamined data.
About a third of the construction industry still uses paper to capture, track and manage data, according to Procore’s latest How We Build Now 2022 benchmark report.
This means that for every supply-chain delay, equipment lying idle, schedule delay or poorly managed budget, there’s data sitting untouched, unexamined and unactioned.
This uneconomical use of data, and the disconnect from using the right technology, means developers are missing out on immense efficiencies and falling behind the global trend of digital transformation.
Today, more so than before, the urge for data-driven decision making has come to the fore.
In a world where global pandemics bring daily life to a halt, wild weather intercepts supply chains, travel restrictions force labour shortages and global politics drive disruptions, it’s never been more imperative to control what we can and mitigate further project risks.
With such uncertainty, there is a drive to use technologies and data that transform day-to-day operations, enhance visibility on projects and optimise quality assurance.
Smarter construction. To become a construction industry leader, you need to be able to make accurate decisions in real-time, attain a higher profit potential, stay ahead of compliance and deliver high-quality projects.
Projects are now more complex and tenders become more competitive. The ability to manage workflows effectively, create more productive, safer builds, and effectively use and take action on available data will be key in accelerating project timelines, meeting customer demands, building trust and accountability, improving quality assurance, and accessing predictive insights.
Real-time project data is the answer to this—exposing vulnerabilities and meeting quality needs. Once there is a place to capture, extract, and analyse data across a project’s life cycle, it’s easier to incorporate both past performance and generate predictive insights.
As Procore Asia Pacific vice-president Tom Karemacher said, “The next step is to ensure all ANZ construction companies have access to project information, data insights and benchmarks at their fingertips, to help reduce complexity and meet quality and compliance needs”.
Platform technology, like Procore, helps deliver this. Procore’s platform captures data in real-time from multiple sources, making data sets complete and negating the need for an antiquated, siloed model of multiple spreadsheets or disparate technology solutions that don’t talk to each other.
As a result, quality of information improves, as well as access to real-time visibility into project performance.
PDG Corporation group ICT manager Richard Rhodes said, “For property developers, this is what we want to stay on top of—how the project is tracking and how the extension of time will impact the build and our financials”.
“It’s particularly reassuring to know we own and control our underlying data—which gives us one less thing to worry about.”
It’s time to eliminate surprise costs, schedule delays, rework and potential disputes. You can make faster and smarter decisions with access to the right tech, because if you aren’t looking at all the data, you may as well be looking at none of it.
