Plans have been filed for a retirement living precinct in a Canberra fringe suburb.
Developer Kieran Pierlot’s KBDC is proposing the project in Calwell, about 20km from the city’s heart.
The Oztal Architects-designed project comprises 30 one-storey townhouses.
The townhouses will form two rows along both sides of the street, curving slightly along the edges to take in the shape of the 11,606sq m site.
The property is next to the Calwell shopping strip and is part of the Calwell masterplan, which stipulates a limit of 30 homes but also allows for potential use as a communal facilities zone.
The Suburban Land Agency put the formerly public land on the market in December, 2020. It sold it in March, 2021, for $1.65 million to KBDC. Collier’s Josh Reid brokered the sale.
Major projects in the nation’s capital continue to stack up, including Geocon’s massive residential project at the site of the former Werriwa Defence Facility.
Planned for the 7640sq m site at 70 Allara Street are 356 apartments, shops and a gymnasium across three buildings up to nine storeys.
Meanwhile, Iris Capital recently picked up the Casino Canberra for $63 million, beating out one other contender.
