Retirement Provider Unveils $36 Million New Aged Care Facility in Brisbane

Retirement developer Aveo Group has opened its new $36 million "age in place" aged-care home at Durack, 15 km south-west of Brisbane's CBD.

The opening of Aveo’s flagship Aged Care Home follows a complete rebuild of the existing structure to incorporate 123 aged care beds in en-suite rooms ranging from 28 square metres to a 53 square metre couples suite, a dedicated dementia wing and respite rooms.

Aveo Group Executive General Manager Jason Eldering said the Group placed a priority on ageing in place and creating a comfortable, home-like environment.

“The living options themselves break the mould of what has previously been available in aged care living, especially our Superior rooms, which are the largest we’ve ever made them, allowing couples to stay together in comfort," he said.

“Fostering a sense of community is especially important, so all three floors within the building are connected by generous common areas including open plan kitchens, coffee and dining areas, kid zones for grandchildren, piano bar, courtyards and gardens, a reflection room, beauty salon and health and wellness facilities.”

The onsite health and wellness centre will be serviced by UQ Health professionals including a full time nurse and GP.

The aged care home will employ a total of 123 staff members who will undergo an intensive training program to ensure the highest standard of care is met.

Aveo Durack’s Aged Care Home has welcomed four previous residents plus a further six who have transitioned into the home from the community’s serviced apartments, a benefit of living in an integrated retirement community covering all levels of care.

“It’s not what you expect when you come to an aged care home and it’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into the new design to ensure residents are comfortable and have access to the best services available," Federal Member for Oxley Milton Dick MP said, during a recent tour of the home.

The Aged Care Home, within the greater 34-hectare retirement community, is located at 356 Blunder Road, Durack.
