West Village Construction Gets Underway

Less than eight months after the project was called in and reviewed by the State Government, construction is underway on Stage One of the West Village project in Brisbane's West End.

Hutchinson Builders, which has been appointed by developer Sekisui House for Stage One, will eventually have a team of 140 working six days a week to construct the two residential buildings, Park and Lexington, and two luxury town homes that make up the $100 million Stage One. Construction is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2018, ready for residents to move in.

West Village Project Director Andrew Thompson said the recent installation of two cranes and the concrete pours for the buildings’ basement car parks signalled the start of a transformational project for West End.

“West Village represents new Brisbane living - an integrated residential community on 2.6 hectares of land, within easy walking distance of the CBD,” Mr Thompson said.

“Over the next few years, Sekisui House will create a new community on the site with a wide variety of residential accommodation styles, restaurants and cafes, a full-line supermarket and associated specialty shops, child care, community and art spaces, gymnasium, health and wellbeing precinct and more.

“This project is truly a one-off; its scale and integrated mixed use design cannot be repeated in inner Brisbane, and having a single developer responsible for the whole site means we can create something where all its components work in harmony and to their greatest potential.”

When completed, West Village will comprise seven contemporary apartment buildings, nearly one hectare of open space, a supermarket, a diverse mix of galleries, boutiques, alfresco dining, traders and merchants in a retail and entertainment hub linked by new green laneways.

West Village will include the re-imagining of two heritage buildings for residential and retail uses, including the iconic 1920s Peter’s Ice Cream Factory, plus two new parks - Mollison Green, a family-friendly green space with children’s play area, and Boundary Street Common which will recreate an historic grass forecourt on Boundary Street.
