Apartment Block Approved for WA’s Shorehaven

A 32-apartment development near a beach that’s home to a haunted shipwreck north-west of Perth has been approved.

The Paradise Point residential block overlooking Shorehaven Beach at Alkimos, 42km from the WA capital, was approved by the City of Wanneroo on April 12.

The three-storey development at 2 Zodiac Drive comprises single, two and three-bedroom apartments with basement parking for 54 cars, two motorcycles plus a bicycle storage area.

The ground floor includes a communal walkway and courtyard dividing the block, with a second courtyard for residents on the first floor.

The roof will be topped with solar PV cells.

Paradise Point is being developed by Seacrest Homes and was designed by architects FHSI Design Studio.

Seacrest Homes, part of the Basso family’s Delstrat Group, was formed in 1989 from Modern Joinery company, founded 1960, a supplier of timber frames to the Perth residential building industry.

Director with Taylor Burrell Barnett planners Trent Will said that rather than using the Development Assessment Panel process, the developer had opted to go to the City of Wanneroo to determine the application.

“This resulted in approval in less than three months—which we believe is much quicker than the time it would have taken for a DAP decision,” Will said.

Will said that as part of recent planning reforms there was no longer a mandatory requirement to have projects considered by the DAP, including those with high construction values.

Shorehaven is a major masterplanned residential estate that will ultimately have 3000 homes along the Alkimos coastline.

Alkimos takes its name from the wreck of the SS Alkimos, a Greek-owned merchant ship that lies off the beach near the site.

Wrecked in 1963, it is a popular diving spot despite, or perhaps due to, the legend that it is haunted.
