A housing project for older women at risk of homelessness will get off the ground this week as the South Australian Government works to tackle the issue in the Adelaide CBD.
The project comprises 50 studio apartments specifically for the at-risk group in a six-storey project at Tucker Street in the CBD.
It has chosen Mossop Group to build the project with the company starting construction this week ahead of a completion date of 2026.
Five of the 50 studio apartments will be accessible for people who have mobility requirements.
There will be space for support services, storage space, a common area and a courtyard will be on the ground floor.
The project will also have 59 bicycle storage spaces, a computer room, meeting rooms and a communal garden.
Operation of the project will be handed to the South Australian Housing Trust.
The apartments will be close to major shopping precincts, Rymill Park and accessible transport services. The project has an estimated cost to build of $20 million.
The vacant site is near several proposed residential and hotel projects, including one backing on to it that would have 95 hotel rooms.
