Hot on the heels of Australia’s second wave pool opening, fresh designs for the much-anticipated Surf Lakes precinct on Queensland’s Capricorn Coast have been revealed.
Approved in January, 2022, the park uses quite different technology to UrbnSurf, which opened its second pool, in Sydney, to surfers this month.
The new design for the Queensland lake takes in the 90ha site’s approval that includes up to 250 bedrooms, up to 100 camping or caravan sites, retail and food and beverage outlets, a skate park and scuba pool.
“At the heart of this development will be a commercially upgraded Surf Lake,” the company said.
“The upgraded machine will mean a significant improvement in wave size (up to 2.6m face height) and length (up to 15-second rides), creating a playground of lefts, rights, reforms and slabs for all ability levels.
“While benefitting from an aesthetic overhaul, the machine will also be much quieter than the prototype, with the ability to run on renewable electricity.
“The waves are also getting an upgrade with CFD-modelled enhancements to the bathymetry and a robust reinforced concrete lake bed. A state-of-the-art, efficient water treatment system will also be installed to ensure clean, clear water at all times.”
The newly released renders [at top] show accommodation among bushland on the eastern side of the site, which is between Rockhampton and Yeppoon, about an 8-hour drive north of Brisbane.
It also reveals the style of retail and food and beverage outlets as well as landscaping around the lake itself.
While an opening date has not been revealed, Surf Lakes confirmed to The Urban Developer they were now seeking capital partners ahead of an anticipated start on construction this year.
