High-End Apartment Block Readied for NSW’s Nelson Bay

Nelson Bay HERO

A high-end block of apartments has been approved north-east of Newcastle in “the launchpad” town for whale and dolphin watching in the region.

There will be five residential apartments across six storeys, with a penthouse spanning the top two levels, at 5 Donald Street, Nelson Bay, 215km north of Sydney,.

Sydney-based developer Trinium Group is heading up the project approved by the Port Stephens Council. EMK Architects has designed the block.

The penthouse apartment will include a swimming pool while the whole-floor apartments will hold ocean views.

Construction is expected to begin this year.

The Nelson Bay apartment project will include basement parking.

The NSW Government has pushed out initiatives to increase housing supply in Port Stephens thanks to an expected surge of 20,000 residents over the next 20 years.

Initiatives including the draft Port Stephens Local Housing Strategy outline three main areas—housing diversity, affordability and supply.

If adopted, the strategy aims to increase supply around popular town centres close to hospitals, medical centres and public transport.

Deputy Mayor Leah Anderson said the council needed to seek solutions to attract developers and bring a larger body of developments into the area.

“The council is very aware that to accommodate extra residents, we need extra infrastructure—our roads, health services, schools and public spaces all need to grow to meet future demand,” Anderson said.
