Plans by P&N Sleiman Group to expand a trio of towers in Sydney’s inner west have been greenlit.
The developer, led by managing director Pierre Sleiman and head of construction Nabil Sleiman, submitted the upscaled plans via the State Significant Development pathway in June of last year.
It had been approved for a 30-storey tower of 179 apartments on the site in 2020.
The updated proposal for the project at 28-34 Victoria Street, and 17 and 21 George Street at Burwood added two towers, and increased the tallest to 40 storeys.
Building A on Victoria Street will have an additional 10 storeys of apartments, bringing the number up to 252 apartments.
Under the approved plans, a tower at 17 George Street, Building C, will provide 53 units across 33 levels, while Building B at 21 George Street is an entirely new 26-storey shoptop housing project that includes affordable housing above ground floor retail and commercial space within the podium.
On its first two levels, nine serviced apartments will be provided, with 75 affordable apartments in the remaining tower space above the four-storey podium.
The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure said in its assessment report that the proposal supported the state government priorities to deliver well-located housing including affordable homes in “a highly accessible location,” with bulk and scale compatible with the envisaged character of the area.
The Urban Link Architects-designed scheme is projected to cost $80 million.
P&N Sleiman Group, which also has a mixed-use project in the works in the western Sydney suburb of Bringelly, has dubbed the project Victoria Place.
It is 200m from Burwood train station and 750m from the future Burwood North Metro Station, opposite the Westfield shopping centre.
While Burwood has not experienced the level of development of many other Sydney suburbs, its proximity to the CBD and access to existing and coming transport links has prompted developers to move into the area, including Holdmark’s $600-million Burwood Place project, approved in 2022, while a $209-million project to revamp nearby Burwood RSL is also in the works.
