The Victorian government is calling on communities and other stakeholders to provide feedback on the kind of development they want to see around the new Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East stations.
Draft precinct visions for the stations were released in December with 2000 responses already received.
“Victorians have endorsed SRL twice, and we’ve received huge interest and a positive response from locals—it’s great to see people getting involved in shaping the future of their neighbourhoods,” Victorian minister for Suburban Rail Loop Danny Pearson said.
There will be six underground SRL East stations developed at Box Hill, Burwood, Glen Waverley, Monash, Clayton and Cheltenham, all east of Melbourne’s CBD.
Trains are expected to be up and running through all stations by 2035 to help allow residents to access key education, health and employment centres and deliver much-needed housing.
More than 1000 people are already working on the SRL project with a tunnelling contract awarded late last year and another to be awarded this year.
This consultation phase will not be the only consultation phase.
The SRL East team will also engage with the Greek and Chinese communities and seven community panels, including a youth panel, which will allow opportunities for several key demographic groups to provide feedback.
The project also recently missed out on getting more federal funding than was initially promised in the government’s review of the Infrastructure Investment Program.
