Western Sydney's new stadium $360 million stadium has been marked as 70 per cent complete.
The news was announced by co-tenants the Western Sydney Wanderers and Parramatta Eels who updated their fans with photos and a drone video of the Stadium build.
Construction commenced September 2017 on the site of the old Pirtek Stadium which was designed by Cox Architecture and built by Lend Lease in 1986.
The next step in construction will be finishing the Western Grandstand structure before installation of 30,000 seats and the stadium's two giant video screens.
Minister for Western Sydney and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said the stadium was already injecting millions into the western Sydney economy.
“The NSW Government is delivering major infrastructure which sets communities up for decades,” Ayres said.
“Western Sydney Stadium is part of a multibillion dollar infrastructure spend on schools, hospitals, public transport, roads and cultural facilities.”
A total of 1,200 jobs have been created during the construction phase, with hundreds of additional jobs created through more than $60 million in local business contracts.
The stadium, designed by Populous, part of the Lendlease consortium, has already seen 26,000 cubic metres of concrete poured into the foundation and more than 3300 tonnes of steel lifted into place.
When completed the stadium will have 4300 tonnes of steel used for the seating bowl and roof.
“Western Sydney Stadium is on track to open within months - a new home to showcase our finest home grown and international sporting and international entertainment acts right here in Parramatta,” Ayres said.
“This venue will revolutionise the visitor experience and ensure fans are closer to the action than any stadium in the country, all within an inviting all-year round precinct featuring green space, BBQ decks and kids playgrounds.”
The stadium will feature a Gold LEED Energy and Environment design rating, the US Green Building Council’s sustainability rating tool.
The 30,000 seat stadium is on schedule to be opened mid-2019, with the fit-out starting in June.
