X Marks The Spot For Student Accommodation in Brisbane

I

Developer Icon X has lodged a development application to build student accommodation in inner south-east Brisbane with rooms of less than 10 sqm each.

The student "suites" will have private rooms as small as 9.8 sqm, as well as larger rooms and independent units, The Australian reported.

The $13.5 million "Habitat" building at 162 Ipswich Rd (pictured above), will include 19 units and 63 student rooms on a 1000 sqm block, including 10 per cent open private space.

At a nearby $13 million "Fifth Avenue" development at 150-152 Ipswich Rd (pictured below), Icon X is planning to build 18 units and 42 rooms spread across seven stories.

The shared apartments will feature a common laundry, gym, balconies and ensuites.

Icon X said said that a recent move by the Brisbane City Council to reduce infrastructure charges from $18,500 per unit to $4500 for student accommodation with onsite management had influenced the decision to build student accommodation.
