Yarrabend: The World's First Tesla-Powered Town

Screen-Shot-2016-07-22-at-9

Developed, designed and built by Glenvill and surrounded by parklands of green open spaces, YarraBend is a visionary, riverside suburb only 10 minutes from Melbourne CBD. With its unique combination of open spaces and cutting edge design, YarraBend is where new technology and old traditions meet.

The mix of 2,500 units, townhouses and single family homes each equipped with energy-efficient lighting and appliances, a solar roof, and a built-in Tesla Powerwall. YarraBend residents are predicted to generate 80 per cent less waste and consume 43% per cent less water due to the development’s highly sustainable structure, and will be able to charge their electric cars for free at on-site stations due to the neighbourhood’s use of power, according to Forbes.com.

Sixty of the premium homes—priced between $1.48 million and $2.1 million—are slated to go on sale soon with tenants expected to be able to move in by the end of next year.

Widely regarded as the best mixed-use development site in Melbourne, this extraordinary 16.46 hectare space enjoys almost 300 metres frontage to the iconic Yarra River and is adjacent to sweeping local parklands. Since 1919 the YarraBend site functioned as a paper mill and this beautiful slice of exclusive riverfront land was inaccessible to the public. Our vision is to create an iconic new suburb where residents and visitors alike can enjoy the best of Melbourne living from the serenity of the Yarra River, to a vibrant food and café scene, to an artistic and cultural hub of health and fitness lifestyle.

Details:

  • Corner of Heidelberg Road & Chandler highway, bounded by Parkview Road & Yarra River

  • Dwellings - 2,500 (approx.), mix of free standing homes, townhouses & apartments

  • Retail – 20,000 m2 combination of national supermarkets and specialty shops

  • Primary school located Northern end of YarraBend

While many urban renewal projects revitalise undesirable parts of a city, YarraBend is exactly the opposite. It is located directly across the river from the coveted suburbs of Kew and Studley Park and at the core of the tightly-held suburb of Alphington. Surrounded by the Yarra River, parklands, golf courses, The Yarra Trail walking and cycling tracks and boat houses, it’s easy to forget you’re only a 10-minute drive to Melbourne’s CBD. Public transport is only a few hundred metres away and some of Melbourne’s best public and private schools are just 5 minutes away.

YarraBend will become a new exemplar of sustainable living with a number of key environmental initiatives which will utilise the latest in technology. Partnerships with leading sustainability and technology firms will be included. Melbourne’s arts and cultural status will be reflected at YarraBend with major arts commissions and support for local artists.

This suburb is also perfectly located to create an active and healthy lifestyle and we will supplement the area’s natural and direct access to parkland and trails with health and lifestyle hubs including gymnasium, sports facilities, spaces for yoga, wellness and meditation spaces.

Designing a beautiful suburb is of utmost importance to Glenvill. It is our intention to enlist iconic Australian and international collaborators in many areas of the development. These collaborators will ensure the initiatives we introduce at YarraBend are exciting, ground breaking and of significant value to our community.

Art & Culture

Art will be a major focus in the design of YarraBend, with an Art and Design Precinct that celebrates local and international artists through exhibitions, workshops and interactive pop-ups.

Sustainability

With a strong focus around sustainability and design, at YarraBend innovation leads the way ensuring its future-proofed. With latest technology like PV energy and TESLA Powerwalls to meticulous horticultural designs and the latest in street design, YarraBend will be a green and sustainable place that exists in harmony with the natural environment
