Jamie Durie Collaboration To Bring ‘Destination Design’ To Western Sydney Hubs

Residents of Western Sydney cities Liverpool and Parramatta are set to reap the benefits of ‘destination design’, as Coronation Property collaborates with a slew of international designers and creatives, including Jamie Durie.

Mr Durie and his company, Durie Design, have committed to bringing their design approach to Coronation Property’s The Paper Mill precinct in Liverpool and their 8 Phillip Street project in Parramatta.

Durie Design will be delivering the landscape masterplan at The Paper Mill – an 882-apartment development across four contemporary buildings – with the company’s work to include a rejuvenation of the Georges River and surrounding foreshore.

In Parramatta, the company will be responsible for the 55 storey 8 Phillip Street's landscape elements.

The company has previously completed commercial projects all over the world, including the Singapore Bay foreshore, Sheraton Salobre Resort Spain, Albarari in Dubai and Australia’s own Hayman Island Resort, and has won awards including the PCA Award for Best Residential Development in Australia and a Gold Medal at London’s Chelsea Flower Show.

Mr Durie said he was excited at the prospect of breathing new life into Western Sydney’s urban areas.

“Our design concepts aim to create a sense of community, especially through the clever planning of gardens and green spaces,” Mr Durie said.

“As such, we’re interested in delivering interactive areas where people can dine, BBQ, sunbake and play, with our landscaping designed to give residents a sense of belonging and what we call ‘destination design’.

“Whether it’s a balcony or courtyard, a rooftop, parklands or the waterfront, our philosophy is that if people have a place to go to, there is more reason for the architecture.”

Mr Durie said the Paper Mill's landscaping will try and maximise on its location, with its Georges River frontage.

“Indigenous local plants will help encourage native flora and flora to come back into the area once construction is completed," he said.

“Ultimately, this work will unlock the Georges River foreshore and help to provide an important destination for locals, residents and visitors.”

Meanwhile, at Parramatta’s 8 Phillip Street, Mr Durie said he plans to apply his ‘transterior' philosophy, which involves creating a transition between interior and exterior spaces.

“We’ll be implementing this quintessentially Australian style of living in the tower’s entrance, rooftop bar, pool terrace and streetscape,” Mr Durie said.

The rooftop garden will feature contemporary native Australian species, planted to create a secret garden oasis with intimate gathering spaces.

“It will be a garden to live in, not just to look at, with mature trees creating a grove and intelligent plant selection with golden accents accentuating the building’s brass tones.”
